The Marvels Movie Box Office Opening, The Marvels MCU Full Movie Digital Release

The Marvels Box Office Opening

The female-fronted The Marvels is on track to open in the $75-80 million range in the latest test of box office superhero fatigue. It starts on November 10.

The 33rd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, which opened to $153.4 million before inflation in North America. Tracking for The Marvels varies widely depending on the research firm; NRG estimates $72-88 million, while The Quorum estimates $80-90 million.

The superhero film is unique in having three female leads. And it was directed by Nia DaCosta, the first black woman to direct a Marvel Studios film, as well as the youngest director of an MCU film.

The last title from Marvel Studios not to open to $70 million or more was 2015's Ant-Man ($57.2 million). The majority of MCU films (25 of them) opened to $100 million or more domestically, with eight films grossing $150 million or more.

After Dune, there's extra pressure on exhibitors for Marvel: Part II, which was pushed back from its November 2 release date due to the ongoing actor's strike and a ban on talent doing any promotion. Marvel Studios and Disney decided to keep The Marvels on their dates, but hoped the vacation would end in time for the cast's promotions.

There's also a lingering concern about superhero fatigue. DC was the hardest hit, highlighted by The Flash bombing after opening to $55 million this summer. The major exception to any tedium was Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The trilogy debuted to $106 million domestically on its way to a $845.6 million global haul behind the second film ($863.7 million).

In the new film, Larson is joined by Iman Vellani, the main star of the Disney+ series, as Ms. Marvel, as well as Teyonah Parris as a grown-up version of the Captain Marvel character Monica Rambeau. The actor made his Marvel film debut with WandaVision, which counts The Marvels screenwriter Megan McDonnell among its writers.

The Marvels connect the heroes in a rather inconvenient way: When one of them uses their powers, they switch places with each other, as was teased in the season finale of Ms. Marvel last year.

Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapoor and Sagar Sheikh also star in Miracles.

The Marvels Lowest Opening

While it's already expected to be one of the franchise's lowest box office openings, the new The Marvels ticket advance sales place the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel below two of the DC Extended Universe's biggest bombs. The film was released as a sequel to Captain Marvel in 2019, as well as Disney+'s Ms. Acting as a sequel to Marvel and WandaVision, it follows the stories of Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan. Miracles will see the three heroes come together when their powers collide, causing them to switch places, all of which seem to be linked to the rise of the vengeful Kree warrior Dar-Ben.

With less than a week to go until release, Deadline has released new ticket sales numbers for The Marvels. The MCU sequel is currently tracking close to $70 million in its opening weekend, not only behind the franchise's worst-reviewed film, The Eternals , which opened to $71.2 million, but behind two of the DCEU's biggest bombs, Black Adam and The Flash . The Dwayne Johnson-led film opened to $67 million, while the multiverse adventure starring the polarizing Ezra Miller opened to $55 million.

With their current projections, Marvel is not only competing with DC's lowest numbers, but is also looking at potentially one of the worst overall box office outings for the MCU to date. Despite having one of the lowest grosses of the last decade, it still performed modestly in the long run, continuing to gross over $402 million against a production budget of $236.2 million. To date, the lowest opening for the franchise remains 2008's The Incredible Hulk.

One film that the Captain Marvel sequel will hope to replicate is 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Between the film's mixed reception and the sub-franchise being one of the MCU's lower-grossing properties, Quantumania eventually closed over $476.1 million in theaters. Although higher than Eternals, the combination of a $200 million production budget with an extensive marketing campaign resulted in a breakeven point of $600 million, for which it earned the title of the MCU's worst flop. showing the film to this day.

Movie Budget

As early reports put the film at a net budget of $219.8 million after a hefty production subsidy, The Marvels' advance ticket sales and early box office projections don't bode well for the film's chances of becoming one of the MCU's biggest box office bombs. One of the big things that could help a film overcome these numbers is strong critical reviews or positive word of mouth from audiences, but that could equally be a problem, with public test screenings reportedly getting mixed reviews. Another major factor that could boost The Marvels' chances is the competition it faces in the weeks following its release: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes franchise is projected for a low opening, while Disney's Wish is similarly impressive. a modest $50 million opening.

7 details to remember before watching 'The Marvels'

The sequel to 2019's billion-dollar hit Captain Marvel is finally out this fall, and it'll focus on not just one, but three Marvel heroes.

The worlds of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris) collide when their light-based powers are mixed in The Marvels. The trio must work together to unlock their power and face a greater threat to the universe.

Here's what the MCU will remember when the movie hits theaters on November 10.

Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) is one of the strongest heroes in the MCU.

Captain Marvel received her powers in the first film during an explosion where she was exposed to the powers of the cosmic Infinity Stone. A subsequent blood transfusion from Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) made him half-Kree and gave him additional powers.

One of the few heroes who can go toe-to-toe with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful heroes in the MCU.

Danvers ages more slowly due to absorbing the power of the space stone and his half-Kree status. The Marvel India social media account posted a photo of Danvers, who appears to be over 60, despite looking much younger.

In the first film, Danvers went by the name "Vers", so don't be surprised if any enemies refer to him by his old name.

When we last saw Captain Marvel, she was helping others in the universe. He appeared at the end of "Shang-Chi" and tried to investigate the origin of the magical 10 rings that gave him power.

The Kree are an advanced alien race that wants to conquer the galaxies and are the villains of Captain Marvel.

Danvers' homeland, where she lived for years while unaware of her true identity in "Captain Marvel," will be featured in the sequel.

According to the film's production notes, Danvers' powers will begin to meld with those of Ms. Marvel and Foto after crossing paths with a Kree revolutionary.

Nick Fury is married to a Skrull and is in space as the director of S.A.B.E.R.

Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is currently the director of a defense program known as S.A.B.E.R. where he operates from a space station, monitoring and protecting Earth from any potential threats in space.

Marvel's Disney+ series, "Secret Invasion", revealed that Fury is married to a Skrull named Varra/Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard).

Monica Rambeau is the daughter of Marian, Carol's best friend, who helps design Captain Marvel's costume colors.

In Captain Marvel, Monica appeared as a child looking after Captain Marvel and called her Aunt Carol. He helped Danvers choose the blue, red and gold design of Captain Marvel's superhero outfit.

Danvers affectionately called Monica "Lieutenant Trouble" as a child, which she would still use as a nickname for her niece in the sequel.

Carol and Monica's mother, Maria (Lashana Lynch), were roommates at the United States Air Force Academy. On Disney+'s "WandaVision," Maria dies of complications from cancer.

Monica has grown up and gained superpowers after coming into contact with a non-dimensional energy that Wanda Maximoff placed in a town in New Jersey. As a result, he can phase out the substance and choose to go with his mother's Air Force call sign, Photon.

In the production notes of "Wonders" it was called S.A.B.E.R. an astronaut.

Kamala Khan is a big fan of Captain Marvel, who has super powers and is also known as Ms. Marvel.

Featured in Disney+'s Ms. Marvel, Kamala is a teenager from New Jersey who awakens powers she didn't know she had after wearing her grandmother's bracelet.

Nicknamed the superhero, Ms. Marvel is able to draw energy from another dimension to give her super strength, elongate her body, and create crystalline objects.

Kamala's friend Bruno (Matt Lintz) told her in the show's season one finale that he had mutated her genes, leading many to believe that she was the first mutant after the voice heard from the MCU's X-Men animated series theme song playing in the background.

Goose may look like a cat, but she's an alien called a Flerken.

Actually Dr. Lawson/Mar-Vell's (Annette Bening) pet Carol and Fury become Gaz in Captain Marvel.

The lovable and highly intelligent alien has pocket-sized tentacles on its tiny body that hold octopus-like tentacles for attacking enemies and swallowing large objects it can hold.

Despite permanently blinding Fury, the former S.H.I.E.L.D. The director was incredibly fond of the cat, who was last seen in his office during the filming of Captain Marvel.

A group of feline friends called the Goose Flerkittens will return in "Wonders."

Danvers' Skrull friend, Talos, is dead. But his powerful daughter could pop up.

The Skrulls were shapeshifters looking for a place to call home by invading Earth in 2019's Captain Marvel.

Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), a respected Skrull leader working with Danvers and Nick Fury, is killed while rescuing the President of the United States in Marvel's 2023 Disney+ series Secret Invasion.

Talos' daughter G'iah (Emilia Clarke) may continue after Danvers first appeared in Captain Marvel as a child.

Infused with the DNA of many Marvel characters, from Thanos to Captain Marvel, G'iah may now be the most powerful character in the MCU. When we last saw him, he had agreed to start a job with MI6 agent Sonya Felsworth (Olivia Colman).
